Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face, first appeared in *Detective Comics* #66 (August 1942). He began his career as the incorruptible District Attorney of Gotham City, earning the nickname "Apollo" for his good looks and charisma.

Dent formed an alliance with Batman and Commissioner Gordon to combat organized crime. However, his life took a tragic turn when mob boss Sal Maroni threw acid in his face during a trial. The attack left half of Dent's face horribly scarred.

Traumatized and driven insane by the disfigurement, Dent adopted the persona of Two-Face. He carries a two-headed coin, one side scarred to match his face. The flip of the coin determines his actions, making him a figure of duality and chance. Two-Face believes in the absolute rule of chance and that no one is responsible for what they do. The use of the coin removes responsibility as he is leaving it up to fate.
